| Serial’ killer gets life imprisonment for 2007 murder |
MUMBAI: A fast-track sessions court at Sewri passed a verdict in a sensational case on the first day of the year itself when it convicted alleged
serial killer, Ravindra Kantrole, to life in jail on charges of killing a man sleeping on the Marine Drive footover bridge on January 11, 2007.
Kantrole, who was arrested on March 7, 2007, had been charged with the murder of three of the seven men found dead in south Mumbai under mysterious circumstances between October 2006 and February 2007. So he had been dubbed a `serial killer' and also called the `Beer Man' after stories did the rounds that the murderer left an empty can of beer near all his victims' bodies.
The police, though, did not find it easy to nail Kantrole as he has earlier been acquitted in two cases for lack of evidence. This time though, the prosecution was bolstered by the testimony of two key witnesses. One said he had seen Kantrole assaulting the victim and the other, a BMC employee, told the court that he had seen him lurking near the body which was lying in a pool of blood. The prosecution was also supported by forensic evidence gathered from the brain mapping of Kantrole which indicated his complicity in the crime. |

Once referred to as “evil incarnate” because of the extreme brutality of the murders he committed, Pommerenke spent 49 years in prison, longer than any other criminal in Germany.

KATHMANDU: After a six-year dogged legal battle, Nepal’s Supreme Court yesterday announced that the fate of alleged serial killer Charles Sobhraj, now is jail here, will be decided on January 13
