More 'Speed Freak Killers' Victims Found
Wesley ShermantineThe remains of at least four victims and a fetus have been uncovered by FBI investigators searching locations given to them by a California death row inmate known as one of the 'Speed Freak Killers.'

Convicted serial killer Wesley Shermantine said that authorities still have not located the "boneyard" where he claims most of the victims are buried.

Shermantine was allowed to leave death row to lead investigators to four wells where he said victims and evidence was buried.

The killer lead investigators to four 45-feet deep wells in the town of Linden. Investigators said they found pieces of human skulls, bones, clothing and jewelry that were dropped into the wells by Shermantine and his co-defendant Loren Herzog during their methamphetamine-fueled killing spree during the 1980s and 1990s.

Bones and Fragments Found

After helping authorities located the wells, Shermantine returned to San Quentin and wrote a letter to bounty hunter Leonard Padilla, who offered to pay him $28,000 for information leading to the discovery of more victims.

"I think it's very important that these relatives, the mothers, the fathers, get whatever they can back," Padilla told reporters.

San Joaquin Sheriff's Department spokesman Les Garcia could not say how many bones and fragments were found during the recent searches.

Herzog hung himself in January after he learned Shermantine was going to accept Padilla's offer.
